Coronavirus Changes

Dear Little League Families,

 

We are living in challenging times with new rules and restrictions that have changed the way that we live our lives.  We know that Little League is not only good for our children but the entire community. It teaches our children valuable life skills, promotes healthy habits, and brings our community together. Unfortunately, to limit the spread of the Coronavirus, we must inform you of some changes that we must make this year.

Season Start Date and Player Evaluations:

Presently, we plan to have a Little League season, but following current CDC guidelines and the Little League International guidelines, we are postponing the start of the Little League season until May 11.  As things stand right now, we do not have access to school fields or facilities until April 27. Facilities that we would typically use to host evaluations also remain closed.

For this reason, and to make sure that we can start the season by May 11, we will be canceling player evaluations this year, and the board of directors with a selection committee of coaches will place players on teams in the Farm, Minor, and Major League divisions.  The selection committee will gather via video/phone teleconferencing on Thursday, April 9, to select teams. We will notify you shortly afterward what team/division your player(s) is placed upon.

Parents Meeting  

Usually, we hold a parent meeting in mid-April at the CDS cafeteria to go over Little League rules, equipment requirements, and introduce you to the board of directors, and coaches, etc. We cannot hold that meeting in the cafeteria. This year, instead, the board of directors will host a Facebook Live meeting on Monday, April 27, at 6:30 pm on our OLL Facebook page. In advance of the meeting, I will email each of you an information packet with our local league rules, equipment requirements, field locations, etc. the Facebook Live event will allow you the opportunity to ask questions via the Facebook comment thread.  We understand that not everybody is on Facebook. For those who are not, please read through the information packet carefully and see if it answers your questions.  If not, you can always email your questions to me or any board member.  As there are more than 80 families signed up for Little League this year, we felt the Facebook Live event would be the easiest, most efficient way to answer your questions. 

Player Registration

We are closing online player registration on April 1. If you know someone who wants to play but hasn’t registered, please spread the word that they must do so by April 1.  If you have registered your player but have yet to fill out a school enrollment form or medical waiver, player agent Erin Underwood will be reaching out to you to make arrangements to get those forms. 

Opening Ceremonies and ongoing communication

We have not yet decided anything about opening ceremonies. Since this is a continually changing situation, and that is such a popular event, we want to have the most up to date information before we decide on how to adjust opening ceremonies. Lastly, as this is a continually evolving situation, we will communicate with you regularly through email, Facebook, and postings to the OLL website.  We do ask for your patience and understanding as we work through these uncertain times. Thank you for your continued support of Orrington Little League, and remember to look out for one another.  I am hopeful that we’ll be hearing the crack of the bat and enjoying snack shack fried dough before we know it.
